Sometimes I am lucky and come across incredible artists and designs online.
Here is a set from photographer Maleon from Asia who has interesting ways of shooting and takes meticulous effort in placing the elements in his images.
I am inspired to do a shoot in the back of an antique shop with smoky incense and Shanghai girls!
I’ve always loved reading designer profiles sometimes more than the product they create…lessons to be learned.
Here are key phrases in Tamara’s interview:
“I’ve always trusted my gut instincts”
value proposition:provides women with the basics and classics that every wardrobe needs, …from day to evening, seven days a week
designs that are timeless and versatile
restructured management
introduced new blood
success can be attributed to her incredible talent for pulling all the right forces together
seeing beyond the immediate future
knowing where all the money is headed
inspiration for our collections doesn’t necessarily come from a place, an era, or an outfit – I like to call it Zeigist
vision for Jimmy Choo … to fully accessorize the women
finding the right balance is always a struggle
“I see myself as a mother, designer, and business woman” – Tamara
We are getting more team members in our design team and happy to have Jessie join us, a graduate student from Academy of Arts.
In the next month we will be designing for Fall 2011, we hope to share our journey with you soon!
I enjoy working with other designers and companies.
One of the best experiences is working with Mother of London, run by Mildred Von in Los Angeles and doing really amazing work in leather and PVC.
I am looking forward this year of working with her and building a new collection under this brand.
Product development usually takes a long time. For us, we move pretty fast – our cycles run from 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the materials used, if custom textiles are used and other design factors.
I am constantly in process of developing really interesting textiles to be used on multiple types of apparel and fabrics. Here is a set shot I did on stretch lycra for swim wear. It’s a good start for color matching and working on more options for textiles choices. Some of our designs and samples do not make it to final market because we want the best for our audience but we often do limited print collections to show our potential and the amazing work we have to offer.
We will also print on other types of fabrics such as cotton, satin, knit and other materials. Keep watch as we develop new ideas and beautiful images.
I am working on different textile projects, some hand painted and some via illustrator and photoshop. Some of these studies are for industrial designs, used on drapes, plates, paper, etc and some based on recent collections are for our own collections for NIKA TANG and NYX branded apparel.
A wonder re-shoot done while I was in an all week’s Master class in Drexel University (Philadelphia)
with Arts of Fashion.
Crochet piece hand crocheted by me in Brussels, Belgium summer of 2009 at La Cambre.
Skirt also made by me using Japanese pattern making techniques.
Enjoy, this is one of my favorite shoots.

This Monday, we shot for our new brand NYX in Pigment Cosmetics in San Francisco. We had pieces from our swim and casualwear collections featuring grunge and organic designs. This is one of many new textile and print collections to come.
Another behind the scenes look with our shoot with Ryuuzaki Photography before they move productions to Los Angeles!

It’s been a while. I’ve been busy with school, designing textiles, knitwear, and various collections. Please check the our new mini collections collections and designs. I will be updating the website and adding more content to the blog. Visit the blog here or follow NIKA TANG on Facebook. Plenty more to come very soon!
Inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night, is the minicollection of three silk dupioni dresses, with braided elements, piped edges and sequin touches. The set was beautifully shot by Ryuuzaki Photography in the Legion of Honor.
In our constant mission to experiment with different styles, and techniques, came the second set in black lace with Victorian influences, green satin with all over chantilly lace and the last green piece in organic cut-out shapes working with negative space on the body.
The last three images are a collection inspired by Aeon Flux. The structured jackets and tailoring exhibit a dark warrior style, utilizing PVC, satin, dupioni, silk, leather and cotton.

Urban Samurai has been submitted to the Gen Art’s “Plastics Make it Possible” competition.
Please VOTE for it!
“Urban Samurai” by Nika Tang is a modern collection incorporating the colors and balance of the Japanese samurai and elements that gives a masculine interpretation of feminine pieces. The urban samurai is strong, sophisticated and elegant. Here are two concept pieces that will spring off a more wearable and versatile womenswear collection for Fall 2010, taking on the clean mix of Japanese inspired wool prints, soft, delicate mohair fabric and contours and lines of a modern warrior look.
Whether you know me personally, through work, or only as a stranger, please give an honest vote and write some feedback. I need 5 votes to be participating.
